Recording interfaces are the hub of every computer based studio setup, containing the means to convert analog audio signal to digital code, which your computer can interpret and record. Recording interfaces can vary from desktop sized single input units to chainable rack mount interfaces with the capability to record dozens of audio tracks simultaneously and transcribe in pristine digital quality.
Things to consider when purchasing a recording interface:
How many external instruments or microphones would you like to be able to plug in at once? Do you have a lot of outboard gear that would require inserts, such as reverbs, delays, compressors, etc? What kind of outputs would you like for your monitoring- ie. is one set of unbalanced outputs enough for your purposes or do you need multiple, balanced outputs for a/b’ing your tracks? We’re here to help with any questions you have!
