Description
The dbx® 286s is a versatile channel strip processor that combines a professional-grade microphone/instrument preamp with four integrated processing sections that can be used individually or together. Instead of routing vocals and instruments through a noisy, low-quality mixer, the dbx 286s delivers clean, detailed sound with extensive control options, including wide input gain adjustment, switchable +48V phantom power, and an 80 Hz high-pass filter to eliminate unwanted hum, rumble, or wind noise.
Its patented dbx OverEasy® compressor smoothly controls dynamics for natural-sounding acoustic performances or produces the bold, upfront vocal tone dbx compressors are known for. A frequency-adjustable De-Esser reduces harsh sibilance and high-frequency distortion from vocals and instruments like cymbals. The Enhancer section lets you refine your sound further—boosting high-frequency clarity and sparkle with the HF Detail control, while the LF Detail control adds warmth, depth, and low-end definition without muddying the mix. The Expander/Gate, with independent threshold and ratio controls, can gently minimize headphone bleed or aggressively gate noisy guitar amplifiers.
For precise setup, the dbx 286s includes comprehensive metering and status LEDs for clear visual feedback. A floating balanced XLR microphone input supports both balanced and unbalanced microphones for studio or home use, while the ¼" TRS line input accommodates electronic instruments or recorded tracks. An Insert jack allows easy integration of external processors or routing the mic preamp signal to other destinations.
By combining all essential mic processing in a single unit, the dbx 286s eliminates the expense and complexity of linking multiple devices. The result is a streamlined workflow and a short, clean signal path that preserves audio quality and keeps your recordings sounding polished and professional.
