✅ Shell Construction

• The PHX shells use an innovative 11-ply hybrid design, unique to Yamaha:

  • Center core of jatoba (a very hard, dense wood) provides powerful low-end punch.

  • Kapur layers offer warmth and depth.

  • Maple outer plies add brightness and articulation.

• The total shell thickness is carefully controlled (~10.3 mm for the bass drum), creating a rich, balanced tone with strong projection and controlled overtones.
