Description

Elektron Tonverk – Multi-Engine Hybrid Groovebox with Advanced Sequencing and Modular Sound Design Workflow

The Elektron Tonverk is a next-generation hybrid groovebox designed for deep sound exploration, advanced sampling, synthesis, and flexible audio routing. Built as a multi-engine performance workstation, it combines sampling, granular processing, wavetable synthesis, and sequencing in a single powerful instrument for studio production and live experimentation.

Hybrid Multi-Engine Sound System

Tonverk features multiple sound engines that can be assigned across its audio tracks, enabling a wide range of synthesis and sampling approaches:

  • Single Player: A polyphonic one-shot and loop playback engine for stereo samples with looping, crossfade smoothing, and flexible playback control.
  • Multi Player: A multisample instrument engine designed for melodic and expressive keyboard-style performance, with support for custom multisampling via Auto Sampler.
  • Subtracks Engine: Allows a single track to be split into multiple independent layers, each capable of playing its own sample with dedicated filtering, envelopes, and modulation—effectively turning one track into a multi-part drum or texture system.
  • Grainer Engine: A granular synthesis system that slices audio into micro grains and reassembles them into evolving textures, rhythmic patterns, or ambient soundscapes with deep control over density, size, randomness, and motion.
  • Wavefinder Engine: A dual wavetable oscillator system offering detailed tone shaping, wavetable position control, detuning, and animation-based modulation, with support for user-imported waveforms.

Advanced Sampling System

Tonverk supports two primary sampling methods:

  • Recorder Mode: Traditional real-time sampling from external inputs or internal sources, similar to classic Elektron workflows.
  • Auto Sampler: Automated multisampling tool that captures multiple velocity layers and notes from external MIDI instruments or software sources, allowing monophonic sounds to be transformed into playable polyphonic instruments.

Sampling can also be performed via USB input, enabling direct capture from software environments.

Flexible Audio Routing Architecture

Tonverk features an advanced routing system where every track can be independently configured. Audio can be routed internally between tracks, sent through buses and effects chains, or processed externally and returned to the system.

With multiple inputs, outputs, and headphone routing options, Tonverk can function as a central hub for complex studio setups or live performance rigs. MIDI In, Out, Thru, dual USB-C ports, and SD card storage further expand connectivity.

Extensive Effects Processing

Tonverk includes a wide range of onboard effects, both new and classic, designed for deep sound transformation. These include reverb, delay, distortion, pitch processing, modulation, filtering, and spectral-style effects.

New effect types such as Rumsklang Reverb, Daisy Delay, Dirtshaper, Degrader, Chrono Pitch, Infinite Flanger, Phase processing tools, and advanced filter networks provide extensive creative shaping options, alongside established Elektron-style processors.

Deep Modulation Environment

Each track features multiple modulation sources for complex sound movement:

  • 2 voice LFOs per audio track
  • 2 FX LFOs per track
  • Modulation envelopes per track
  • Dedicated filter and amp envelopes
  • Additional LFOs on buses, sends, and master mix

Subtrack configurations extend modulation capabilities even further, allowing independent movement within layered structures.

Expanded Sequencing Power

Tonverk features an enhanced Elektron sequencer capable of up to 256 steps per pattern. Each of the 16 tracks (8 audio + 8 bus/send/mix tracks) has its own independent sequencing lane.

Advanced sequencing tools include:

  • Parameter locks (including routing locks)
  • Conditional trigs and probability control
  • Micro-timing and swing
  • Pattern transitions and performance modes
  • Arpeggiator, chord mode, and song arrangement tools

This allows highly detailed composition and real-time performance control within a single environment.

Performance and Creative Workflow

Tonverk is designed as a full creative workstation. It supports:

  • Multisample instrument creation
  • Drum kit building and layered sound design
  • Preset and project management
  • Real-time performance modes
  • External keyboard integration
  • Song arrangement and pattern chaining

It serves equally well as a studio centerpiece or a live performance instrument.

Factory Content & Sound Library

The system includes a wide selection of factory content, including multisampled instruments, single-shot samples, Subtrack kits, wavetables, and ready-to-use presets. These provide a strong starting point for sound design and performance exploration.
