The BOSS RE-202 Space Echo brings the legendary character of the Roland RE-201 Space Echo into an advanced modern effects pedal. Developed by the company behind the original, the RE-202 uses detailed modeling to recreate the distinctive behavior of the RE-201, including its magnetic tape response, motor characteristics, tape saturation, preamp coloration, multi-head echo patterns, and spring reverb.

The RE-202 captures the warm, dynamic, and naturally modulated character associated with vintage tape echo while eliminating the maintenance and tape replacement required by the original hardware. Its expanded controls provide access to classic Space Echo tones as well as additional effects and routing options suited to modern music production and performance.

The pedal features the original three-head configuration along with an additional virtual tape head, providing 12 different echo combinations. Expanded delay time gives you greater flexibility for everything from short rhythmic repeats to long, spacious echoes.

A dedicated stereo reverb section includes the original-style spring reverb along with Hall, Plate, Room, and Ambience types. The Saturation control adds adjustable magnetic tape compression and preamp coloration, while Wow & Flutter introduces natural tape-speed variations and modulation. Selectable tape-age settings allow you to move between a cleaner new-tape character and the worn, unpredictable sound of aged tape.

For modern setups, the RE-202 provides true stereo inputs and outputs with selectable operating modes for instruments and line-level equipment. Users can choose between the modeled warmth of the original Space Echo preamp or an unprocessed analog dry signal.

The RE-202 also includes Warp and Twist effects with footswitch control, tap tempo, delay carryover, and onboard memory. Four memories are available directly from the pedal, while up to 127 total memories can be accessed through MIDI program changes. External footswitches, expression pedals, and MIDI provide additional control for live performance and studio applications.
