Description
Elektron Octatrack MKII – 8-Track Dynamic Performance Sampler & Real-Time Sequencing Workstation
The Elektron Octatrack MKII is a powerful eight-track stereo sampler, sequencer, and performance workstation designed for deep real-time audio manipulation. It goes far beyond traditional sampling, offering a flexible environment for live performance, composition, looping, and sound transformation. Whether used as a central studio hub or a live performance instrument, it evolves with your creative workflow.
Advanced Performance Sampler
The Octatrack MKII is built around eight stereo audio tracks, each capable of sampling, playback, looping, and processing audio in real time. It supports multiple machine types—such as Flex, Static, Thru, Pickup, and Neighbor—allowing each track to function as a sampler, live input processor, or effect chain element.
You can record stereo audio from external inputs, resample internal tracks, or capture master and cue outputs. All recording can happen live, even while sequences are running.
Deep Audio Manipulation
Once recorded, samples can be sliced, stretched, pitched, reversed, and rearranged with precision. Time-stretching and pitch-shifting tools allow full control over loops, one-shots, and complex rhythmic edits.
The Octatrack MKII encourages real-time experimentation, letting you reshape audio continuously during playback without interrupting performance.
Crossfader Scene Control
A defining feature of the Octatrack MKII is its performance crossfader. Users can assign two “scenes” (sets of parameter changes) and morph between them instantly or gradually.
Up to 16 scenes can be stored per project, enabling smooth transitions or dramatic sound transformations at any moment during performance.
Powerful Modulation System
Each track includes multiple modulation sources, including three LFOs per track with highly customizable waveforms and behaviors. The LFO designer allows precise shaping of modulation curves, enabling complex rhythmic and tonal movement.
Modulation can be applied not only to internal sound parameters but also to MIDI data, extending control to external instruments.
High-Quality Effects Processing
Each audio track features two insert effect slots with a wide selection of processors including filters, EQs, compressors, delays, reverbs, modulation effects, and lo-fi tools. Additional processing can be expanded using Neighbor machines for chained effect routing.
Available effects include multimode filters, phasers, flangers, chorus, comb filtering, spatialization, and multiple reverb types, allowing deep sound sculpting and creative destruction.
Sequencing and Arrangement
The Octatrack MKII features the renowned Elektron sequencer, offering up to 64 steps per pattern with independent track lengths and time signatures. It supports parameter locks, trig conditions, micro-timing, swing, retriggering, and real-time recording.
In addition to audio sequencing, it includes eight dedicated MIDI tracks for controlling external gear with LFO modulation and extensive CC mapping. The arranger mode allows full song construction from patterns, with flexible playback control including repeats, mutes, and jumps.
Performance and Workflow
Designed for live use, the Octatrack MKII functions as both a sampler and a performance mixer. It includes flexible input routing, cue outputs for monitoring, and direct control over external audio sources.
Its cross-platform MIDI and audio capabilities make it suitable as a central hub for hybrid digital and analog setups.
Storage and Sampling Engine
The system uses CompactFlash storage, with project size and sample capacity depending on card size. Each project includes flexible RAM for live sampling and streaming capabilities for longer audio files. Users can store hundreds of patterns, arrangements, and sample slots per project.
