Roland TAIKO-1 Electronic Taiko Percussion Instrument with Dual-Zone Triggering, Mesh Heads, Multiple Japanese Drum Sounds, Battery Operation, Bluetooth, and USB Audio Import (TAIKO-1)
The Roland TAIKO-1 Electronic Taiko brings the traditional sound and expressive playing experience of Japanese taiko percussion into a compact, modern electronic instrument. Designed and made in Japan, the TAIKO-1 combines Roland’s electronic percussion technology with the authentic playing style of taiko, making it ideal for taiko performers, percussionists, students, and musicians looking for a versatile and portable Japanese percussion instrument.
The TAIKO-1 is based on the traditional katsugi okedo daiko design and provides access to a wide range of Japanese percussion sounds, including okedo daiko, nagado daiko, shime taiko, and odaiko. It also includes bachi variations, chappa cymbals, hyoshigi wooden blocks, layered drumline sounds, and traditional taiko shouts and calls.
Featuring dual-zone triggering with positional sensing, the TAIKO-1 responds naturally to different playing positions and dynamics. Center hits produce full, powerful tones, while off-center and edge strikes create different tonal characteristics. Specially designed mesh heads provide a natural playing feel while keeping acoustic noise extremely low, making the TAIKO-1 suitable for quiet practice at home.
The TAIKO-1 is also highly portable, weighing approximately 4.5 kg (9 lb.) and allowing the instrument to be disassembled by removing the eight middle rods. Battery operation provides up to five hours of playing time, while Bluetooth connectivity allows you to stream music and lesson material wirelessly from a smartphone.
For additional creative possibilities, you can import your own WAV sounds via USB flash drive and play them individually or layer them with the built-in taiko sounds. The TAIKO-1 also includes ji-uchi backing patterns for timing practice and performance accompaniment, making it a powerful instrument for both learning and live performance.
